Encyclopedia of Paleontology: 2 Volumes by Ronald Singer,
The Encyclopedia of Paleontology has been designed to address the shortage of general reference works on paleontology, both vertebrate and invertebrate. Targeted specifically at college undergraduates, upper-level high school students, and interested lay persons, the Encyclopedia of Paleontology comprises some 1,800 pages with approximately 500 entries arranged in an alphabetical format. Each entry includes an essay and a further reading list. The essays -- ranging from short descriptions to comprehensive discussions -- have been written by an international team of some 200 leading scholars in the field and are copiously illustrated. Because the major thrust of the Encyclopedia of Paleontology is to provide basic information about the discipline, most of the entries are devoted to explanations of paleontological concepts and techniques, examinations of the evolutionary development of particular organisms and biological features, profiles of major discoveries, and biographies of leading scientists.
